London, Nov 3:

The United Kingdom has warned the European Union against excluding British businesses from its proposed ‘Made in Europe’ initiative, raising concerns that such a move could undermine economic cooperation and create fresh trade barriers between the two sides.

The warning comes amid discussions over European industrial policies aimed at strengthening domestic manufacturing, protecting strategic industries and reducing dependence on foreign suppliers.

Britain has expressed concern that preferential treatment for EU-based manufacturers could place British companies at a competitive disadvantage, particularly in sectors where supply chains remain closely integrated across Europe.

The dispute highlights continuing tensions in UK-EU economic relations following Brexit. Despite Britain’s departure from the bloc, businesses on both sides remain heavily dependent on cross-border trade, investment and industrial partnerships.

The proposed initiative reflects the EU’s broader ambition to strengthen European industrial competitiveness. However, restricting participation by non-EU partners could complicate efforts to maintain cooperation with countries such as Britain.

The issue could become another significant test of UK-EU relations as both sides seek to balance industrial protection, economic security and closer cooperation.
