Dravidar Kazhagam president K Veeramani has kicked up a fresh controversy. Speaking at an event organised by Dravidar Kazhagam in Chennai, Veeramani spoke on the topic ‘Pollachi Scandal – Irresponsible Brahmin Behaviour’. He is well-known for making derogatory remarks on Hindu culture, practices and Gods. Lord Krishna should be the first person who should be booked for the criminal act of eve-teasing, Veeramani said, and added, ‘From stealing butter at small age, to stealing women’s clothes at adolescence and further asking them to come out, Krishna was the instigator of eve-teasing.’
His comments received backlash from a large section of people. Many expressed their resentment to his derogatory comments and cases were also filed with the police against Veeramani. Many allege that in the name of secularism, leaders like Veeramani have been targetting only Hinduism. Requests have been made to authorities to take appropriate action for his lashing out at Hindu Gods.
With the State being in election mode, such statements will lead to communal conflicts. Leaders like him should exercise restraint. A few even questioned whether he would do the same with other faiths. People live in amity. It is these politicians who target vote banks to create difference among them, allege many. Hurting one’s beliefs for no reason is an offence.
