Chennai: DMK president M K Stalin’s son and actor-producer Udhayanidhi Stalin will be taking over the powerful party post of secretary of the youth wing.
If reports are to be believed, the announcement will be made officially this evening.
There has been a groundswell of support for Udhayanidhi to take up the leadership of the DMK youth wing, which, incidentally, was the launchpad for his father Stalin to catapult into other important posts in the party and while the DMK was ruling, in the State.
Party seniors like Durai Murugan and T R Baalu have been arguing that the party needs a young face to draw youngsters as it was seen as an ageing party. Their argument was that Udhayanidhi would be able to attract the young crowd to inject fresh blood into the Dravidian major.
During the recent general elections and Assembly by-elections, Udhayanidhi actively participated in campaigning. He also stated that he has always been involved in the politics of the DMK.
Rumour mills have been working overtime the past couple of days that Udhayanidhi would be given the youth wing secretary post any time now.
