Panchayat school in Chennai suburan area spoiled by miscreats

Chennai: St Thomas Panchayat Union Middle School at Mylai Balaji Nagar at Madipakkam in the city suburb has been getting some unwanted attention recently.

It is not because the children still play ‘pachaikuthirai’ there. But due to the fact that it has become a haven for miscreants and drunkards.

“In recent times students and teachers there are cautious so as to not get injured from broken liquor bottles left by drunkards in the school ground,” said Ramesh, a passerby.

He blamed the authorities concerned for leaving the school prone to such people. “Due to the lack of compound walls and the presence of sewage pumping station at the school premises, students are suffering a lot. The school is used as a open bar by tipplers,” added Ramesh.

News Today’ made a visit to the school and had a chat with the management. They said, “The school has a good strength of students. They are all doing good in their academics. But they need to be provided basic amenities such as drinking water, a proper-playground with equipments, a proper compound wall, etc.”

Last year, a trust named Arulmigu Kalasalingam College of Engineering 90 Idhayam Trust (AKCE-90) adopted the school and provided them with basic facilities. They had levelled the playground, repaired water taps and the sewage system. But their work has gone in vain, said students.
