Chennai: Illegal parking of vehicles on either side of the Choolaimedu High Road, in the city is proving to be a menace for residents, so to say.
According to sources, this has led to an increase in traffic and less space for pedestrians.
Speaking on this, Ramaswamy, a resident, said,”This is the link connecting Chetpet, Kodambakkam and Poonamallee High Road and is therefore always traffic-prone.”
He points out that the road from RBI quarters to Nehru Street is particularly narrow and the presence of food outlets here, adds to the problem.
“The customers to these eateries park their vehicles right in the middle, making it difficult for vehicular movement,” he said, and added,”Similarly, senior citizens too find it arduous to walk.”
Ramaswamy also claims that fruit vendors, flower-sellers and tailors occupy a major portion of the road.
“The traffic police should conduct an inquiry and look to name the stretch as a no-parking zone, so that two and four-wheelers will move freely. This is possible only if there is no encroachment on either side,”he concluded.
