Chennai: “Mere excellence in education and career is not enough to lead a contented life. One must be humane and choose the right path by holding on to ethical and moral values,” said Anna University Vice-Chancellor M K Surappa.
Addressing the 29th convocation of Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering (SVCE) on the college premises at Pennalur on Monday, he emphasised the need to have a passion to serve humanity.
He motivated the students to go out of their comfort zones to excel in their respective fields.
“It is certainly a myth if you consider that only students hailing from elite institutions can innovate technologies. Everyone must break the mental shackles and feel one is as good as students from other top universities and start working,” Surappa said.
As many as 1,057 UG students, 96 PG students and 16 Ph.D scholars received degrees on the occasion.
In his welcome address, SVCE governing council chairman, A C Muthiah, said, “Creative quotient is what drives people to be successful and it is the the quality of being inquisitive that opens the doors of creativity.”
Cognizant, Chennai vice-president (consulting), Prakash Balasubramanian, Infosys, Chennai, associate vice-president and delivery centre head, M S Surya Narayanan, and SVCE principal S Ganesh Vaidyanathan participated.
