Chennai: In a first-of-its-kind initiative ever to be undertaken, Limra Trust, the organisation that works for the upliftment of the downtrodden, in association with Masjid E Rahmania Mosque, Kuberan Nagar, Madipakkam, in the city organised a religious harmony drive at the mosque premises recently.
Speaking to News Today, Limra Trust president and honorary president of Madipakkam North East Welfare Association, Janab A Wajith Khan, said, “As far as our locality is concerned, we have been united irrespective of religion. We mutually support each other for the upliftment of our religions. The harmony drive was just a manifestation of religious thoughts. This is the first edition and turned out to be a massive success with participation of almost 200 residents.”
The mosque president Janab S M Ali, ex-ward members, Ponnusamy, Thiyagarajan, mosque imam, Madipakkam church pastor, gurukkal of Sri Gunalamman Temple and Sri Vedhapureeswarar Temple in the area presided over the function.
Speaking on the occasion, Thiyagarajan, said, “One example amplies the unity of people of Madipakkam irrespective of religion. Back in 1992 when Wajith Khan was the secretary of the association, he struggled hard to get a land for building the present famous Meenakshi Sundareshwarar Temple and also achieved it. It was because of his efforts, this temple came into being.”
Following this, a writer Prem Kumar released his book on religious harmony and handed over the first copies to Ponnusamy and Thiyagarajan.
Then, the mosque imam, Madipakkam church pastor, gurukkal of Sri Gunalamman Temple and Sri Vedhapureeswarar Temple took an oath for preserving religious harmony in the locality.
