Chennai: When we think about policemen, we think about them nabbing thieves, or preventing crimes from happening. However, nowadays, they do a bit more, including helping people who are in need, but can’t express that.
In what can be termed as a record in its own right, a special team of police from Madipakkam S7 Police Station headed by Inspector Jaisankar, have successfully traced the details of a mentally unstable man. What makes it special is that they did that having only his name as a clue.
Not only that, they have also safely handed him over to his guardians, who had come all the way from Odisha.
Speaking to Madipakkam Talk, Inspector Jaisankar, said, “A couple of days ago, we received a complaint from residents that an unidentified man has been staring at vehicles parked near Madipakkam Bus Stand. Initially, we thought him to be a vehicle thief. But on nabbing and questioning, we found he was mentally unstable and couldn’t even reveal his details expect his name. He also spoke fluent English. He told that his name was Devendra Dyan. This was the only clue we had.”
With a tough task at hand, the Inspector said, they had no other option other than relying on social media. “One of our colleagues began to search facebook for his profile. After a day-long search, we were able to find his profile. We logged into the profile and published a post seeking help from people in his friends-list for his details. To our surprise, a person named Chandrasekar responded immediately. He gave us Devendra’s Odisha address and phone number,” said the policeman.
Upon contact, the cops came to know from his parents that he was intended to go to Kerala. “His parents told that he completed ITI and went to Kerala with an agent for seeking job opportunities. But it seems the agent is a fraud who robbed Devendra of his money and certificates and went absconding. The victim then turned mentally unstable. We are yet to find how he reached Chennai from Kerala,” Jaisankar added.
Finally, Jaisankar said, “Chandrashekar, along with Devendra’s uncle from Andhra Pradesh came to the police station and Devendra was handed over to them after completion of the formalities.”
The police have taken this case as an example and have issued warnings to residents about fake job offers and requested them to be cautious. Inspector Jaisankar can be contacted at 94981 43405.
