Lack of traffic light worries commuters in Chennai

Chennai: The traffic signal on Porur main road, opposite the corporation school, remains inoperative. Occasionally, a traffic inspector can be seen standing there, but is that enough.

This negligence on part of the officials has angered the locals and the commuters.

“Vehicles come down at great speed from the Porur bridge and don’t slow down even when people are standing on either side of the road waiting to cross. We are put at such a huge risk. What about the elderly and kids, how will they manage to cross the road safely,” Mahendran of Porur said.

“I take my granddaughter to a school nearby and face difficulty while crossing the road. We have been facing this problem for more than a month now. In the mornings, I see an inspector standing there and regulating the traffic. But in the evenings, I don’t see him.”

He added, “Crossing the road in the evenings is painful. The lights from the vehicles cause glare and makes it even more difficult. Our safety is jeopardised. This issue can only be solved if the signal is operated daily. We hope the authorities take initiative and rectify this problem as soon as possible.”
