A tourist from Switzerland lost her bag containing cash at Sir Theagaraya Road here yesterday.
According to the police, a complaint was filed by M Ball Carole (28), a native of Switzerland, who had reached the city 20 November.
She was staying at a hotel on Cenotaph Road. On Wednesday, she went to Pondy Bazaar for shopping and was in an autorickshaw when two men on a two-wheeler snatched her bag and fled the scene.
A police source said, “The vehicle was moving slowly through the traffic. The men snatched the bag when the auto was near Maya Plaza. The bag contained $ 3,500, whose worth is around Rs 2.52 lakh, 2,000 Swizz pounds and Rs 5,000.”
Carole, who arrived on a tourist visa, was on an all-India tour and was planning to leave Chennai 23 November. The police suspect the men were following Carole for some time.
The police are verifying the CCTV footage in the area to nab the culprits.
