Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has announced that starting from 1 December, beneficiaries of the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme can avail of treatment for up to Rs 5 lakh at authorised hospitals.
In a statement issued today, Palaniswami said the hike in insurance, which was Rs 2 lakh, was made following request from several people.
The scheme was started by former chief minister J Jayalalithaa 11 January 2012 in which 1.58 crore families are members. Of this 26.96 lakh people have benefited so far at a cost of Rs 5,133.33 crore.
