The Urban Public Health Centre (UPHC) in Sembakkam, constructed near the Alavattaman temple, has been catering to the health needs of residents in the locality. Constructed on 50 cents, it was built at a cost of Rs 42 lakh and benefits about 200 patients daily on an average.
However, the lack of a proper compound was a major cause of concern. Now, this too has been solved, with Minister C Vijayabaskar announcing that a wall, at a cost of Rs 18 lakh, will be constructed around the hospital.
Speaking to News Today, former Sembakkam Municipality Commissioner G Santhakumar, under whom the resolution for the construction of the UPHC was passed, said he was happy with the move.
“The resolution to construct this building was passed by the Councillors back then, based on the request of residents. We identified the land for constructing the hospital near the Alavattaman temple. Following the construction of the building, residents requested for a compound wall and we tried to get one. Now, we are glad that this has also been sanctioned,” he said.
He further stated that the PWD tender process is in progress and work for the construction will begin soon.
