Chennai: Sundar Rajan leads a busy life. He is a chartered accountant by day, running his own consultancy. The rest of the day, you can find him writing poetry or short stories. Some of his writings are aired in the Kalpakkam radio station as part of a CSR activity. He came across as a chartered accountant, writer and a person who is also involved in social activities when News Today got in touch with him.
THE INITIAL SPARK
“I started writing during my college days,” recalls Sundar. “In those days, the opportunity to get your work published wasn’t like how it is today. Also, only a few people used to read. So, I had to slow down my writing and concentrate on my professional life. Nevertheless, the passion remained.”
It was around the year 2000 when Sundar decided to get into writing with renewed vigour, come hell or high water. “I started writing poems and shared it with a few of my friends who critiqued them,” he says. Sundar is immensely grateful for his friends’ feedback. “Most would ask why haven’t I published my writings yet,” he remembers.
POSITIVE VIBES MAGNET
He feels that the positive response he received for his writings is because he writes about “everyday happenings and experiences”.
“My writing process is very simple,” he confesses with a smile. “For example, I once wrote a poem about my grandmother. My friends said they could relate to it easily as it reminded them of their own grandmothers.”
He then explains that there is a message in his writing. “You will never find anything negative in my writing,” says Sundar.
He is also delighted with the fact that some of his writing inspired a few of his friends to pen down their own thoughts.
P FOR PUBLISH
With positive feedback flooding his literary life, Sundar decided to get his work published. Things had changed a lot since his college days. “I thought it will be a good opportunity to let my writing reach more people,” he says. “I started looking out for publishers.”
Sundar eventually found one and started working with them. “I gave them the guidelines on what I wanted in the book,” he says. His book of poems, Beyond the Realms has illustrations, brief introductions on how he got ideas and what readers can expect from the poems.
He has also published a short story collection, called Eternal Art.
Sundar organised a poetry competition with the help of Odyssey book store in Adyar and the Indian Poetry Circle, a group of exciting individuals who are into poetry.
