S Gopinath, a resident of Avvai Shanmugam Road, Royapettah had a pleasing experience with the Mylapore Police recently as they helped in retrieving the valuable items, his close aide left in an autorickshaw.
Gopinaths friend T Sugantharaj who is residing in Singapore came to Chennai during the last week of December for health check-up and shopping along with his family. Speaking about the experience Gopinath says, “On 28 December, My friend and his family visited my house. After shopping in Mylapore, they reached my home in an autorickshaw at my residence at Avvai Shanmugam Road at around 6.40 pm, they inadvertently left two covers in the vehicle itself. This was realised only after they entered my flat. By the time the auto had left without any trace.”
According to Gopinath, the covers contained a silk saree and pattu pavadai worth 25,000 and also a medical file along with the medicines.
“While coming to my house in the auto, they stopped at a few shops in between and only after that reached my home. So we immediately rushed to all the places to check for the CCTV footages to know the registration number of the auto,” added Gopinath. Unable to get any conclusive evidence, they filed a complaint with Royapettah police.
“We were asked to file a written complaint and the police officials there were very polite and sincere. Two policemen, Shakthivel and Thirunavukkarasu accompanied us to show the place where the auto was boarded and the places where it stopped before reaching my house. They checked the video footages along the way but without any conclusive evidence, they however, ensured us that they will find the auto,” he added.
“My friend left to Singapore on 31 December without any hope of getting back the lost items,” he said. According to Gopinath, the two policemen were in regular touch with him, and five days later they asked him for specific details after narrowing down on an auto. “Soon they called me and informed that they had located the auto and the driver and had retrieved back the items from him. After verification I was asked to collect it from them,” said Gopinath.
“At the police station, the auto driver, Senthil Kumar from Perambur said that he has been searching for us all those days, keeping the things inside his auto. We thanked him and met the Assistant Commisioner of Police, Royapettah H Krishnamurthy. I was really happy and impressed with them and the incident changed my perception I had about Tamilnadu police,” he said.
