2019 general elections: Vijayakanth’s DMDK yet to strike deal with AIADMK

Chennai: No decision has been taken so far regarding the DMDK joining the AIADMK alliance for the upcoming general elections  this year.

Though it was believed that a deal would be struck between the Dravidian major and DMDK with Prime Minister Narendra Modi arriving to launch the alliance campaign this evening, it did not happen.

After a meeting this morning at the party headquarters, DMDK deputy general secretary met Railway Minister and BJP’s Tamilnadu in-charge, Piyush Goyal, in Chennai and discussed the seat-sharing issue with him. But since they could not arrive at an agreement.

Speaking to mediapersons after that, Sudhish said the talks were stuck on the number of seats and that no agreement had been reached. As the talks prolonged and it was time for Piyush Goyal to join Modi’s meeting at Kilambakkam, in nearby Kanchipuram district, he left, said Sudhish.

But he also added that the next time Modi comes to India, DMDK leader Vijayakanth would share the dais with him, hinting that they were going with the AIADMK alliance.

In a related development, DMK treasurer Durai Murugan said Sudhish had contacted him. “But I told him we have neither time nor seats to share,” he told mediapersons.
