Chennai: In a shocking incident, a husband stabbed his wife in the presence of a judge at Madras High Court premises today.
According to sources, the couple, identified as Varalakshmi (40) and Saravanan, have been married for years.
They lived in Kamarajar Salai, Kodungaiyur and Saravanan worked as a driver.
Recently, a misunderstanding took place between the couple and the duo applied for divorce.
This morning, the marital dispute case was scheduled for hearing in first additional family court.
Saravanan, on seeing Varalakshmi, spoke to her, but soon the conversation turned sour and he whipped out a knife and stabbed her.
Lawyers and people present in the court pounced on him. A few judges were witness to the attempt to murder.
Esplanade police have registered a case.
Varalakshmi has been sent to Stanley Hospital for treatment.
