Chennai: The Anna University Syndicate has dismissed 37 temporary staff for their involvement in the 2017 marks-for-cash scam.

According to reports, the temporary staff were said to have accepted bribes to offer additional marks to students. The scam that surfaced in 2017, created a storm not just among the academia but also the general public.

According to the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), thousands of students from Anna University might have graduated after bribing the professors of the University.
The agency filed an FIR alleging that the former controller of examinations, G V Uma, and nine other professors were involved in the scam.
The action was taken by DVAC following reports on the ‘money-for-marks’ in the semester exams conducted during April, May and June 2017.
