Police detain six in connection with the TN rape & murder case


Coimbatore: In a development in the rape and murder of a seven-year-old girl in Coimbatore, the police yesterday detained six people for interrogation, the girl’s neighbour is one of them.

State-wide protests were held and several political leaders condemned the act. More than 500 people stage a road-roko seeking justice for the girl, and it resulted in traffic disruption for nearly four hour. The girl’s parents and members of women’s organisations submitted a memorandum to the district collector, seeking immediate arrest of the accused and stringent punishment for perpetrators.

On March 25, the class 2 student had gone out to play after returning home from school, but did not return till nightfall. Her neighbours who found the girl the next morning, with her hands and legs tied. The post-mortem found that the girl had been raped before being murdered.

The police have announced reward for those who come forward with the identity of the culprits involved in the case and pamphlets were also pasted across the city and the rural areas in this regard.
