Drunk driver runs over 2 at Villivakkam

Chennai: A man and an elderly woman were killed and another woman sustained injury after a car driver, who was under the influence of alcohol, ran over them on CTH Road at Villivakkam.

According to police, the incident took place below the Padi flyover at Annai Sathya Nagar at 7.15 am today.

A police source said, the incident took place at the service road which was closed for Metrowater works. The accused, Devendran (45) of Villivakkam, is the owner of a travels company.

“He was driving a Toyota Innova, entered the service road and hit two persons standing in front of a tea shop. They were identified as Madhana Gopal alias Mohan (47) and Adi Lakshmi (50), both residents of Annai Sathya Nagar.”

However, the vehicle did not stop. Devendran then drove into First Street of Annai Sathya Nagar and rammed against Sarasa (60).

Police said, Sarasa died on the spot, Mohan passed away at a hospital and Adi Lakshmi broke her legs.

Devendran was then caught by local residents who assaulted him before handing him over to the police. Villivakkam Traffic Investigation wing has registered a case against him.
