Soil testing process has been started in Madipakkam.

Chennai: The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) recently released the phase two map featuring localities in the neighbourhood, that will be connected to other parts of the city.

The map shows, the train service starts from Madhavaram Milk depot, connecting Sholinganallur via MMBT, Anna Nagar, CMBT, Alwar Thirunagar, Mugalivakkam, Alandur, St Thomas Mount, Adambakkam, Vanuvampet, Puzhuthivakkam, Madipakkam, Keelkattalai, Echangadu, Kovilambakkam, Vellakal, Medavakkam Koot Road.

As soon as the phase 1 was completed, residents of Alalndur, Meenambakkam and Nanganallur were benefited. Now, the residents of Madipakkam, Keelkattalai and Kovilambakkam are looking forward to the completion phase 2 corridor 5 of CMRL.

Bhargav Sai, a resident of Keelkattalai, said, “We are happy that Madipakkam, Keelkattalai and Kovilambakkam will be connected to other parts of the city sooner. Unlike many other parts of the city, we don’t have local EMU trains. The nearest railway station is St Thomas Mount and it is more than eight kilometers from here. MTC buses are the only mode of public transport we have here, as of now. Once the metro train service begins, it will be a great relief for us.”

Mythreyi Sharma, a resident of Kovilambakkam, said, “For the past few months, traffic is the huge problem, that we have in Kovilambakkam. Now that the flyover in Echangadu junction is nearing its completion, the traffic will be reduced to a larger extent. Once the construction for metro train starts, again, the traffic will increase. But after the completion of the same, it will be very easy for us to travel to all parts of the city, unlike now.”

G Mathangi, a resident of Puzhuthivakkam, said, “This road was relaid recently and now the CMRL has dug up the road for construction work. It is a good news for us, but the traffic in this stretch has doubled, and it feels like a nightmare to drive on this road during the peak hours.”

An official from CMRL said that only the soil testing has been started and there is a long process that needs to be carried out before starting the construction.
