Chennai: With over 4,000 members in its fold, the alumni meet of Ramakrishna Mission chain of schools, is all set to take place at Infosys Hall, Ramakrishna Mission campus, Bazullah Road, tomorrow, at 3 pm.

According to sources, the alumni was formed four years ago under the blessings of Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, secretary, Swami Padmasthananda Maharaj.

It may be noted that every year during the meet, teachers and old students will be honoured. This time, the felicitations will be done to S Gopal, K Sethuraman and VR Srinivasan, all teachers and alumni Dr J Balasubramaniam (honorary director, VHS Blood Bank) and D Chandrasekar (founder president, Madras Dyslexia Association).

“Also, alumnus of Golden Jubilee batch (1969) will speak on the occasion,” said Shankar, a co-ordinator of the Alumni Committee.
While a major chunk of the passed out students have settled in the neighbourhood, many others are based in various other countries, such as the US, Canada and Australia.

Speaking about the school, Shankar said, “Established during 1950s in T Nagar, RKM, has produced plenty of engineers, chartered accountants, scientists, doctors and more. The fact is that whoever has studied here, has come out with flying colours.”
The members of the alumni too, are excited about the reunion.

“I studied at the South branch school of RKM during the 1980s. We had an excellent team of teachers and fellow students. I am now eager to meet my friends today,” said Ravi, one such student who works as a government official.

“The institution not only taught us education, but also discipline and obedience, through regular sessions by the Swamijis of Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama,” said Seshan, another old student here.

Notable among those in the alumni, include Dr. Nalli Kuppusami Chetty, cricketer Kedarnath, novelist Lena Tamizhvanan and former senior police official, Sundaram, to name a few. “We are expecting that this will be an unforgettable event for all the former students,” concluded Shankar.

RKM Alumni can be reached at 2814 3896, or email to [email protected].
