Chennai: The Tamilnadu government today said complete lockdown will be implemented in Chennai and its neighbouring districts of Chengalpet, Thiruvallur and Kancheepuram from 19 to 30 June, to control the spread of Covid-19.
A decision in this regard was taken after a team of medical experts met Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami at the Secretariat today and pressed for lockdown.
According to the State government, complete lockdown will be in place in the above places from 19 June to the midnight of 30 June. Tea shops too will not be allowed to function.
The medical expert team appointed to monitor the spread of coronavirus said that they have recommended for complete lockdown in Chennai to control the spread of infection.
Speaking to mediapersons after taking part in a meeting with Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, the expert committee said that the infection has reached its peak and will reduce in the coming days. ‘We already said that the infection will start to reduce after reaching the peak and that is exactly what is happening now. The second wave of the infection might start in three months time,’ the committee said.
