Chennai: The Madras High Court has refused to vacate the stay order on the fresh Assembly privilege notice against Leader of Opposition and DMK president MK Stalin and 17 other MLAs.
Allowing the appeal by the State, the first bench ordered notices to the MLAs to respond within four weeks.
Chief Justice Amreshwar Pratap Sahi and Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy granted liberty to the Assembly Secretary as well as the Privileges Committee to move an application before the single judge to vacate the stay.
The liberty was granted pursuant to writ appeals preferred by them against the single judgeâs stay order.
Last month, Justice Pushpa Sathyanarayana had passed an interim stay on the fresh show-cause notice issued to the MLAs on 7 September, by the Assembly Privilege Committee for displaying gutka sachets inside the House in 2017.
