
Chennai: Tamilnadu School Education Minister K A Sengottaiyan has once again said schools in the State will not be reopened now, and any decision about re-opening of schools will be taken by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.
He said the decision would be taken on the matter by Palaniswami after a report to be prepared by the department was submitted to him.
He cited that some of the students had tested positive before the schools were re-opened in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
A report to be prepared by the Education, Revenue and Health Departments would be given to the Chief Minister based on which he would take a final call on the matter, he added.
All safety measures will be ensured when a decision on re-opening of schools and they will be monitored, he said.
Meanwhile, private schools in the State have asked the Tamilnadu government to slash the school syllabus by 40 per cent as schools will not be able to complete the syllabus by the end of academic year.
K R Nandhakumar, general secretary of schools association, in a letter to the School Education Minister, said that schools have been shut down for seven months and that teachers are working overtime to compensate for the lost time.
He added that parents and students are concerned if the board exam will be conducted for full syllabus.
