Chennai: Dwarka, situated on the banks of the holy river Gomti, is one of the major pilgrimage sites of the Hindus.
It is one of the seven towns of Mokshadayi. The city of gold built by Lord Krishna was submerged in the Gulf of Kutch. Later, historian Dr SR Rao discovered its remains.
In the 13th century, this gigantic 52 meters high temple was supported by 72 pillars. In the sanctum of the temple lies a 1 meter high quadrangular idol of Dwarkadhish. There is an idol of Ambaji on the fourth floor and ‘Ladla Mandap’ on as many as 72 carved pillars on the fifth floor. Next to the main temple is the Rukminiji temple.
The Dwarkadhish temple has a Moksha Dwar as well as Swargadwar. The ‘Shardapith’ founded by Shree Jagadguru Shankaracharya in the 8th century is also located in Dwarka which is one of the four monasteries in India.
Now that Shivrajpur Beach of Dwarka has got a place in ‘Blue Flag Beach’, it surely will give momentum to Gujarat’s tourism.
The Foundation for Environmental Education has awarded the ‘Blue Flag Beach Certificate’ on 11 October 2020. The ‘Blue Flag Beach’ appellation is considered to be the cleanest and most beautiful beach in the world. It is also the world’s most recognised voluntary eco-label.
