Chennai: A day after it was decided to hold to intensify the existing lockdown restrictions, Chief Minister M K Stalin today held a meeting with senior officials from the police department about the strict implementation of the lockdown norms.
Though police personnel carried out checking at several points in the city, people continued to throng the roads in the large numbers.
Police personnel have requested the public not to venture out unnecessarily. They have asked the people to wear mask and maintain social distancing at all time.
During the meeting which was held yesterday it was agreed to constitute an all party legislator’s committee to offer suggestions on improving the Covid guidelines.
Those whoattended the meet decided to intensify the lockdown restrictions to prevent mortality rate and to stop people roaming out without valid reasons.
Amid reports that people are wandering in the streets, and roads getting jammed due to soft action by the Tamil Nadu police, which had announced that people should not be punished, the meeting expressed grave concern over the intensive crowd movement and decided to intensify the restrictions.
A total of five resolutions were adopted at the meeting, which included further intensification of the lockdown norms as there wass an urgent need to protect people’s lives from Covid-19.
The meeting chaired by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin with leaders of legislature parties in the State in attendance, unanimously decided that the lockdown currently in force in the State will be intensified and guidelines will be made stricter in order to protect the lives of the citizens of the State.
It was also decided to form a consultative committee comprising representatives of all the legislature parties to offer constructive suggestions on implementing measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in the State.
At the meeting, all the parties agreed to suspend public meetings, political events and agreed to advise people to follow the lockdown guidelines and support the relief measures being undertaken, an official release said.
All the parties, which attended the meeting also pledged their full support to the government in fighting the spread of the Covid pandemic.
It maybe noted that Tamilnadu recorded 30,621 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday, pushing the caseload to 14,99,485 while 297 deaths in the last 24 hours took the toll to 16,768.
According to a medical bulletin, 19,287 people were discharged on Thursday, taking the tally to 12,98,945, leaving 1,83,772 active infections. Chennai accounted for 6,991 new infections, totalling 4,19,261 till date.
The metropolis leads also in the number of fatalities with 5,546 deaths. The number of samples tested on Thursday was 1,58,129 pushing the cumulative number of specimens examined so far to 2,46,25,416.
Meanwhile, it is said that the sales of Remdesivir at the Nehru Stadium will commence from tomorrow.
It is said that public will be allowed to enter via gate no. 5. The sales will start at 9am and only 300 doses will be sold in a day.
