Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has said he would convene an all-party meet in the coming days on the Mekedatu dam issue, a bone of contention between his State and Tamilnadu.
Speaking to the media, he said, “In the coming days I will convene an all-party meet. When it comes to the land and water related issues, all political parties become one. We will take everyone along and proceed further.”
Bommai on Saturday said that the state will get Centre’s approval regarding the Mekedatu drinking water project over the Cauvery river. He also said that Karnataka will implement it despite any opposition from neighbouring Tamilnadu.
In response to the planned one-day hunger strike on 5 August by BJP’s Tamilnadu unit chief K Annamalai to dissuade the Karnataka government from constructing the dam at Mekedatu, Bommai said that he will implement the project at any cost.
“It doesn’t concern me and it’s none of my business. Karnataka has rights over Cauvery and the Mekedatu dam project will be taken up at any cost. The detailed project report is ready and will get approval soon,” he added.
