London: Former Indian cricketers lauded India’s gritty show at Lords, with ‘Sultan of Multan’ Virender Sehwag saying never ever ever ever underestimate the Indians.The Virat Kohli-led side clinched the second Test against England by 151 runs, coming back from a difficult situation at the end of the fourth day.
Soon after the win, Sehwag wrote on Twitter, From At beginning of the day, bacha paayenge kya (can they save it), to registering this win at Lords, not many teams can turn around their fortunes in overseas Test Matches as we have done. Earlier, having set England a challenging target of 272 after Mohammed Shami (56 not out) and Jasprit Bumrah (34 not out) added unbeaten 89 runs for the ninth wicket, India bowled out the hosts for 120 runs to seal a memorable victory and take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
India’s first two wins at Lord’s came in 1986 and 2014.
Meanwhile, India team skipper Virat Kohli applauded the efforts of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami who stitched together an 89-run unbroken partnership for the ninth wicket to set England a 272-run target in a minimum of 60 overs.
‘Just to applaud what Jasprit (Bumrah) and (Mohmmed) Shami did. It takes a lot of character and heart to play under those circumstances as bowlers who don’t get much to bat, and just putting their hand up for the team when we needed it most. It was something that we were really proud of and we want to let them know.
They were charged up and both took the new ball and got us two breakthroughs as well, which were very crucial for us’, said Kohli during the post-match press conference.
