Chennai: Paying tributes to Mahakavi Subramania Bharathiar on his centenary death anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today announced setting up of a chair in Banaras Hindu University.
“India is proud to be home to the world’s oldest language, Tamil. Today, on the 100th Punya Tithi of Subramania Bharati, honoured to announce the setting up of the Subramania Bharati Chair of Tamil studies at BHU, Kashi,” he tweeted.
Earlier, he posted, “On his 100th Punya Tithi, paying homage to the remarkable Subramania Bharati. We recall his rich scholarship, multi-faceted contributions to our nation, noble ideals on social justice and women empowerment. Here is a speech I gave on him in December 2020.”
