New Delhi: The Supreme Court today agreed to hear a PIL seeking action against those who made hate speeches during the recent ‘Dharam Sansad’ held at Haridwar in Uttarakhand.
The event was reportedly organised by controversia self-proclaimed sadhu Yati Narsinghanand.
Narsinghanand, who already faces several cases in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, has been named in the FIR lodged in connection with the ‘Dharam Sansad’.
‘We will take up the matter,’ Chief Justice of India NV Ramana said today, responding to a petition raised in court by senior lawyer and Congress leader Kapil Sibal.
‘We have filed a Public Interest Litigation on the events that took place at the Dharma Sansad in Haridwar. Slogans of the country have changed from Satyameva Jayate to Sashastramev Jayate,’ said Sibal, urging the Supreme Court to act against the controversial religious gathering last month.
At the religious assembly held on 17-19 December, several religious leaders had congregated and made controversial and provocative speeches against minority communities, including calling for a genocide of Muslims.
