Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to lay the foundation stone for the redevelopment of seven railway stations and seven railway overbridges (ROBs) in the Chennai division of the Southern Railway via video conferencing on February 26. This initiative is part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), aimed at modernizing and upgrading railway infrastructure across the country.Chennai Divisional Railway Manager B. Vishwanath Eerya announced the upcoming event at a press conference, highlighting the significance of the project. A total of 15 railway stations in Chennai were selected for redevelopment under the ABSS, with foundation stones already laid for eight stations last year. The remaining seven stations, including Chennai Beach and Guindy, will have their foundation stones laid by PM Modi.Additionally, two more railway stations, Chromepet and Thirusulam, have been included in the ABSS project, with work scheduled to commence shortly.Eerya also provided updates on the fourth line project between Egmore and Beach, stating that the work has faced delays and is now expected to be completed by June of this year. Originally slated for completion by March, the project timeline was impacted by Cyclone Michaung in December, which disrupted operations for the entire month. Despite the setback, efforts are underway to expedite the project and ensure its timely completion.
