Several districts to receive rain this week


The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a much-awaited forecast predicting heavy rainfall for several districts of Tamil Nadu on May 7 and 8, offering a welcome respite from the scorching heat that has gripped the region.

According to the RMC, heavy rain is anticipated over multiple districts including Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Theni, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli, and Tenkasi. This rainfall is expected to provide relief to residents grappling with soaring temperatures and dry conditions.

However, the forecast for Chennai and its suburbs remains unchanged, with temperatures expected to hover around 40 degrees Celsius for the next two days. Despite hopes for summer rains, the weather officer mentioned that the likelihood of precipitation in the capital city is low in the coming days.

In addition to the rainfall forecast, officials have issued a thunderstorm warning, cautioning residents about gusty wind speeds across the state for the next two days. Tamil Nadu has experienced a significant rainfall deficit of 73 percent during the current summer season, with only 18 mm of rainfall recorded against the expected 69 mm.
