Savukku Shankar’s police custody extended until June 19


Savukku Shankar, a controversial YouTuber entangled in various legal issues, faces continued custody as authorities extend his remand until June 19. Shankar was arrested by the Coimbatore district cyber crime police on May 4 in Palanichettipatti near Theni, following allegations of making derogatory remarks about female police officers and other officials on social media.

In addition to these charges, the Palanichettipatti police registered a case against Shankar for hoarding ganja while he was staying at a lodge in Theni. The Madurai Court granted permission to take Shankar into custody for two days to investigate this matter thoroughly. Accordingly, the Theni district police conducted an extensive investigation, exploring various angles of the case.

On June 5, the Madurai court had ordered Shankar to be remanded in judicial custody related to the hoarding ganja case. During the hearing, presided over by Judge Sengamala Selvan, Shankar was produced from Coimbatore prison via video conferencing. The judge subsequently ordered that Shankar remain in judicial custody until June 19.
