Tamilisai supports Velumani’s opinion on BJP-AIADMK alliance

In a recent press conference held in Chennai, former Tamil Nadu BJP President Tamilisai Soundararajan endorsed AIADMK leader and former state minister S P Velumani’s opinion regarding the BJP-AIADMK alliance during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Tamilisai agreed with Velumani’s assessment that a BJP-AIADMK alliance could have secured up to 35 seats, significantly altering the election outcome.
“It’s a fact that 35 seats would have been secured if the BJP-AIADMK alliance was formed as S P Velumani mentioned. The DMK would not have won so many seats. Alliance is a political strategy, and I cannot comment on the 2026 party alliance,” Tamilisai stated.
She emphasized that any decision about alliances falls under the purview of the BJP’s national leadership. “Any BJP party member cannot say there will be no alliance with AIADMK, as national leadership will decide the electoral alliance,” she added.
Addressing the recent controversies surrounding current Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai’s statements against the AIADMK, Tamilisai refrained from making any direct comments. She noted that it was an internal party matter and beyond her scope to address publicly.
Tamilisai, who also served as the former Governor of Puducherry, highlighted the importance of strategic alliances in the political landscape, suggesting that collaborative efforts could have led to a more favorable outcome for the BJP and its allies in Tamil Nadu.
