Sri Lanka Knocked Out Of T20 World Cup 2024


New York, June 14: Sri Lanka have been eliminated from T20 World Cup Super 8 stage after Bangladesh beat Netherlands by 25 runs.
Bangladesh’s win over Netherlands saw them reach four points from three matches in Group D. South Africa have already advanced from the same group. Sri Lanka, on one point after three games, can at best reach 3 points. Talking about the match, Bangladesh were boosted by Shakib Al Hasan’s unbeaten 64 to set a 160-run target for Netherlands. In reply, the Dutch managed 134/8 in 20 overs.
Najmul Hossain Shanto, the victorious skipper of Bangladesh says that his team showed a lot of character. Adds that he liked Shakib Al Hasan’s calmness while batting and he is happy for him. Tells that they did not know how the conditions would be or what score would be good to defend, but credits every bowler for their performance. Mentions that there was uneven bounce on the pitch but it was still good to bat on. Says that we all know how good Fizz is and he showed that again while Rishad Hossain was excellent as well.
Scott Edwards, the captain of Netherlands credits Bangladesh for the win and says that they were better in all three departments. Adds that they could not use the longer boundary while bowling and conceded 10-15 runs extra. Tells that they knew that Bangladesh has some good death bowlers and tried to score runs in the middle overs, but losing wickets at the wrong time cost them the game. Praises Aryan Dutt for his bowling effort and says it was the correct decision to include him in the team. Mentions that qualification is not in their hands anymore, so they will just look to enjoy and and see what happens in the end.
