The National Centre for Excellence in Entrepreneurship and Learning (NSRCEL) at IIM Bangalore, in collaboration with the Centre for Research on Start-ups and Risk Financing (CREST) at IIT Madras, has released a comprehensive research report titled ‘India Incubator Kaleidoscope 2024’. The report was unveiled on Friday and offers in-depth insights into the start-up incubation ecosystem in India.

The report highlights the critical role incubators play in the growth and development of the start-up ecosystem, particularly in providing essential resources and support to fledgling businesses. At the launch event, Amitabh Kant, the G20 Sherpa for the Government of India and former CEO of NITI Aayog, emphasized the evolving role of incubators. He noted, “Incubators, initially set up to help start-ups form and grow, now perform a variety of roles. These include bringing together scientific and business expertise, directing capital toward promising ventures, and raising societal awareness about entrepreneurship. Importantly, incubators are becoming a crucial link for the government in identifying start-up beneficiaries for various schemes and monitoring their progress.”

The report also outlines the importance of incubators in India’s ambition to become a global leader in innovation and entrepreneurship. V Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, remarked, “For Bharat to emerge as a superpower, we must strive to become a ‘Start-up Nation.’ This requires collaborative efforts from multiple stakeholders, including government bodies, educational institutions, and the private sector. The recommendations made in this report will be instrumental in achieving this goal and addressing the challenges that lie ahead.”
