As Cyclone Fengal continues to impact Tamil Nadu, Chennai has been experiencing heavy rainfall, leading to water stagnation in several areas. The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) issued an update at 9:58 am, confirming that 12 subways across the city have reported waterlogging, though none have been closed at this time.

The affected subways, which are critical for commuter movement, include:

Kathivakkam High Road
Manickam Nagar Subway
Vyasarpadi Subway
Stanley Nagar Subway
Gunguruddy Subway
Perambur High Road Subway
Villivakkam Subway
Nungambakkam Subway
Duralsamy Subway
Rangarajapuram Subway (2-wheeler)
Pazhavanthangal Subway
Aranganathan Subway
Despite the water stagnation, the GCC has assured the public that all the subways remain open, with efforts underway to clear the water and restore normal traffic flow. The corporation has been actively monitoring the situation and deploying resources to pump out water and ensure commuter safety.

The intense rainfall, which began overnight due to the influence of Cyclone Fengal, has led to significant waterlogging in various parts of the city, especially in low-lying areas. The subways, which are prone to flooding during heavy rains, have become key spots of concern for both motorists and pedestrians.

In addition to the subways, several roads and areas across the city have also been affected by the rainfall. The weather department continues to issue warnings for extremely heavy rainfall throughout the day, urging residents to stay cautious and avoid traveling in flood-prone areas. Traffic disruptions and delays are expected as the rain continues to pour down.

Chennai residents are advised to remain alert, avoid unnecessary travel, and report any flooding or damage to the authorities. The GCC is closely monitoring the situation, and teams are on standby to address any further challenges posed by the ongoing weather event.

As Cyclone Fengal moves through the region, the city’s preparedness and response teams are working hard to mitigate the impact of the storm, ensuring the safety of citizens and minimizing disruptions to daily life.
