
“If waterbodies are restored and maintained properly, there will be no need to depend on other states for water. However, rainwater harvesting and desilting of waterbodies remain neglected,” said Seeman, the Chief Coordinator of the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), during a press meet in Chennai.
Seeman stated that assisting those affected by floods should be the primary duty of the ruling government, but they have failed to do so. “Here, it’s all about party politics and election strategies, not about addressing the people’s concerns. Governments only become active as elections approach,” he remarked.
“Officials claim that ₹2,500 crore is needed to build drainage systems to manage rainwater. However, the government itself announced that ₹4,000 crore was allocated for such projects. Despite this, they haven’t even managed to fix Chennai’s waterlogging issues,” Seeman pointed out.
Criticizing the government’s approach, he added, “The ruling party travels abroad to attract investments but fails to replicate the quality of road infrastructure and facilities seen in those countries here in Tamil Nadu.”
