Applications are now open for educational scholarships aimed at supporting students from Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Christian Scheduled Castes. These scholarships are designed to promote the educational advancement of these communities.
The Department for the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Tribes offers various schemes, including the Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme, the Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme, and scholarships specifically for children of parents engaged in unclean occupations.
For the current academic year, students can submit applications for these college-level scholarships online. Notably, students who are already receiving these scholarships do not need to reapply.
First-year students who have newly joined colleges this year and students who missed applying for scholarships last year are eligible to apply. These students must contact the scholarship coordinator appointed at their respective colleges. Applications can then be submitted through the official website https://umis..gov.in/.
To qualify, the annual family income of the applicant must not exceed ₹2.5 lakhs.
For more details, students and their families can call the toll-free helpline 1800-599-7638 during office hours. The Tamil Nadu government has emphasized that January 31, 2024, is the final deadline to submit applications. Students are encouraged to apply promptly to take advantage of this opportunity.
