Senior BJP leader and Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan has criticized the Tamil Nadu government for its handling of women’s safety and governance, stating that questions about accountability are met with undue anger.Speaking to reporters at Chennai airport before departing for New Delhi to meet BJP National President J.P. Nadda, Tamilisai said:
“In Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister Stalin speaks as if womenâs safety and progress are fully ensured under his government. However, the reality is different. In BJP-governed states like Maharashtra, women are empowered and have risen to significant positions, but in Tamil Nadu, women are struggling due to issues like TASMAC liquor outlets.”
She highlighted that the ruling DMK, which came to power promising to close TASMAC liquor outlets, has failed to fulfill its promise and instead continues with mere publicity campaigns. Tamilisai added that women in Tamil Nadu lack safety and trust in the government and the police, forcing the judiciary to intervene in critical cases.
Referring to the recent controversy at Anna University, Tamilisai criticized the government for its evasive responses. “When asked who is responsible for the issue, they get irritated and angry instead of providing answers. Protecting women and preventing atrocities against them should be the primary focus.”
Tamilisai also accused the Tamil Nadu government of not effectively utilizing central funds. “While state ministers meet Union ministers to express gratitude, they complain about a lack of cooperation like a broken record. Despite central support, many funds remain unutilized, and there is no proper accountability from the state government.”
She reiterated that the BJP is committed to ensuring women’s safety and addressing governance issues. Tamilisai concluded her remarks by stating she would discuss these concerns with the BJP leadership in New Delhi.
