The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has frozen assets worth ₹1.26 crore belonging to Tamil Nadu Fisheries and Animal Husbandry Minister Anita Radhakrishnan under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
The frozen properties, located in Thoothukudi, Madurai, and Chennai, are linked to an ongoing investigation into allegations of illegal wealth accumulation by the minister during his tenure as the Housing Minister under the AIADMK regime. The ED stated that the assets have been provisionally attached as part of the investigation.
Radhakrishnan is already facing a corruption case filed by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) for amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income. He had challenged the ED’s jurisdiction in the case by filing a petition in the Madras High Court, which was dismissed. The court directed him to cooperate with the investigation.
Following the High Court’s directive, ED officials conducted intense questioning sessions with the minister. The recent action to freeze his assets marks a significant development in the case, as the agency continues to probe the financial irregularities.
