Mallai Sathya denies Vaiko’s betrayal charges

Mallai Sathya, Deputy General Secretary of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), has issued a strong rebuttal to party founder Vaiko’s recent remarks accusing him of disloyalty.

The senior leader, who has been associated with the MDMK for over two decades, took to Facebook with a detailed note titled “Breaking My Silence” to clear the air on the controversy.

Vaiko had told reporters that Sathya had not remained faithful to the party over the last four years, hinting at internal differences but refusing to go into specifics. This comment comes amid growing speculation about succession plans within the MDMK and the increasing political prominence of Vaiko’s son, Durai Vaiko. Party insiders suggest there’s been an ongoing power struggle, with a section of the cadre feeling sidelined in favour of dynastic preferences.

In his post, Mallai Sathya described Vaiko as a father figure and expressed personal disappointment over the allegations. He categorically denied ever working against the party’s interests, stating that he had tirelessly served the MDMK during elections, agitations, and organizational activities across Tamil Nadu. “I was never disloyal. If I had personal ambitions, I could have joined other parties long ago, but I stayed because of my belief in Vaiko’s vision,” he wrote.

He also subtly hinted that the party was straying from its original principles. “MDMK should be a movement driven by ideology, not by family legacy,” he added. Sathya’s remarks have sparked further debate within the party and among political observers about the future direction of MDMK, a once-vibrant offshoot of the DMK that now struggles to maintain relevance in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.

The episode underscores deepening internal rifts and raises questions about whether the party can remain united ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
