Kabul, Sept 2: A powerful 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan near the Pakistan border, killing over 800 people and injuring more than 2,800.Many villages were buried under landslides triggered by the quake and its aftershocks. Rescue teams and helicopters are struggling to reach survivors due to rough terrain and poor infrastructure.
The disaster hit one of the world’s most vulnerable regions, already weakened by years of conflict and poverty. Emergency services are overwhelmed, and international help has been slow to arrive.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed sorrow over the tragedy and said India is ready to provide humanitarian aid and relief to Afghanistan.
