Celebrated filmmaker Vetri Maaran turned 50 yesterday and to mark the occasion, a promo video was released for his upcoming film—his first-ever collaboration with Silambarasan TR.
Produced by Kalaippuli S Thanu under V Creations, the 30-second promo made waves online, teasing STR’s rugged new look. Sporting a punk hairstyle, printed shirt, and lungi, the actor’s appearance strongly hints at his entry into Vetri Maaran’s Vada Chennai universe. The font used for the titles of both the actor and director further confirmed the connection.
In a recent interview, Vetri Maaran revealed that he would be using the original script he had penned for Vada Chennai. The script was modified when he cast Dhanush in 2018, but it was initially conceived with Simbu in mind. He clarified that while STR 49 and Vada Chennai will share common characters, Dhanush’s iconic role as Anbu will not feature in this new chapter.
Vada Chennai (2018) was a gritty North Chennai crime saga revolving around power struggles among gang leaders. With performances by Dhanush, Ameer, Samuthirakani, and Kishore, the film ended with strong hints of a sequel, leaving audiences eager for more stories from this underworld.
Though the official cast list for STR 49 has not been announced, industry buzz suggests Andrea may reprise her role as Chandra, alongside Samuthirakani, Kishore, Manikandan, and Nelson Dilipkumar. The anticipation is high as fans await the expansion of Vetri Maaran’s most ambitious cinematic universe.
