Wellington, Sept 16: Five key New Zealand cricketers have signed casual contracts for the 2025-26 season to ensure their availability for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in India. The players include Kane Williamson, Finn Allen, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, and Tim Seifert.These casual agreements allow the players to remain part of New Zealand Cricketâs (NZC) high-performance system, providing them with coaching, medical, and mental skills support, along with access to gym and cricket facilities. The contracts are designed to offer flexibility while keeping the players available for key international commitments.
To be eligible for the casual contracts, the players have committed to New Zealandâs upcoming ICC T20 World Cup campaign, scheduled for February and March 2026 in India. The group will also be available for a specified number of series in the build-up to the tournament.
All five players will be selectable for New Zealandâs T20I home series against Australia, England, and the West Indies. However, Kane Williamson has made himself unavailable for the Australia leg of the fixtures.
NZC CEO Scott Weenink emphasized the importance of these arrangements in a T20 World Cup year, stating that the casual agreements are a commitment from the players to NZC and New Zealand cricket. In return, NZC will offer full support to these players as part of their high-performance system.
This development comes just months after Kane Williamson announced he would not accept a central contract for 2024-25 and would also step down as captain in ODIs and T20Is. The 35-year-old said the decision was made to prolong his international career and balance overseas opportunities.
The New Zealand squad for the T20I series against Australia will be announced on Wednesday, September 17.
