Actor-politician and TVK leader Vijay has cancelled his Saturday campaign for this week following the Karur stampede that killed 39 people.
In a message on âXâ, Vijay said he was filled with deep sorrow and pain. He called the tragedy an irreparable loss. He announced âč20 lakh for each family that lost a loved one and âč2 lakh for each injured person under treatment. He said the money could not replace lives but it was his duty to stand by the people.
Meanwhile, the TVK is facing criticism over the incident. Police have filed a case against party general secretary Bussy N Anand, legal wing leader CTR Nirmal Kumar, Karur West district secretary Mathialgan, and another functionary.
