Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has written to Union Minister J.P. Nadda urging immediate action to ensure adequate fertilizer supply for the state’s current Samba paddy season.
He thanked the central and state governments for the timely allocation of fertilizers, noting that Tamil Nadu received nearly 99% of its allotted urea and significant quantities of DAP, MOP, and NPK complex fertilizers for the 2025 Kharif season.
Stalin highlighted that recent government efforts—including a ₹215 crore special package for paddy farmers and timely opening of irrigation dams—have led to record paddy production in Tamil Nadu.
With the Northeast monsoon starting on October 16 and healthy water levels in all major reservoirs, farmers are showing increased interest in expanding paddy cultivation.
He pointed out that November will see a rise in fertilizer demand, especially for urea, due to the anticipated growth in Samba paddy acreage.
Besides paddy, the cultivation of maize, black gram, green gram, groundnut, and sugarcane is progressing vigorously across the state.
The CM requested prompt measures from fertilizer companies to match the state’s proposed requirements for the coming months—6.94 lakh metric tons of urea, 1.93 lakh metric tons of DAP, 1.88 lakh metric tons of MOP, and 5.15 lakh metric tons of NPK complex—so that Tamil Nadu’s agricultural output continues to thrive during this crucial season.
