Former minister and senior AIADMK leader D Jayakumar recently spoke to reporters, expressing the AIADMK’s support for the Election Commission’s ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Tamil Nadu.Jayakumar criticized Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for convening what he called a so-called all-party meeting, asserting it was essentially a gathering of only DMK’s alliance partners.Jayakumar emphasized that the AIADMK has repeatedly insisted on the removal of names of deceased persons and those without valid addresses from the voter lists.
He alleged that in the Royapuram constituency alone, around 1,800 fake votes were found across just 10 polling booths, with nearly 25,000 names of people who were either deceased or without proper addresses listed in the area.
He credited AIADMK’s persistent efforts for prompting the Election Commission to take action.Jayakumar questioned why the DMK should be afraid of the SIR process, accusing the party of routinely capturing polling booths and indulging in bogus voting.
He warned against political attempts to spread fear and rumors about the revision, stressing that the process aims only to clean up the voter lists by removing invalid and duplicate entries. On a possible political alliance between the AIADMK and actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Jayakumar cryptically remarked, “Anything can happen within two new moons,” suggesting that political equations in Tamil Nadu may undergo significant changes in the coming months.
His comments reflect the tense political atmosphere ahead of the assembly elections, highlighting the contest between AIADMK and DMK and signaling potential shifts in alliances and strategies moving forward.
