Shashi Tharoor Calls for Introspection on MGB’s defeat

Congress leader and MP Shashi Tharoor expressed disappointment over the Mahagathbandhan’s poor showing in the Bihar Assembly elections, where the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured a landslide victory. Tharoor, who said he was not invited to campaign in Bihar, emphasized the need for a deep and honest review within the Congress and the alliance on what went wrong. Tharoor highlighted that the Bihar verdict was influenced by various factors, including popular mood, organizational strengths and weaknesses, and the messaging of parties. He also noted that Congress was not the senior partner in the alliance, urging the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) to examine its performance closely as well. Addressing the issue of incentives given to voters just before the election code of conduct, Tharoor called it an unhealthy but recurrent practice and stressed the necessity to analyze the election outcomes in detail. He believes those who were actively involved in the campaign will study the defeat to understand the reasons behind it. @@@
