Coimbatore, Nov 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while inaugurating the South India Natural Farming Summit 2025 at CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex in Coimbatore, stated that India is on a strong path to becoming the global hub for organic farming.Modi emphasized that organic and natural farming methods are deeply rooted in India’s traditional agricultural practices and are crucial for sustainable development and tackling climate change.
Highlighting the transformative reforms in the agriculture sector over the past 11 years, Modi noted that agricultural exports have nearly doubled, signaling an improving global market presence of Indian produce. The government has initiated multiple farmer-friendly schemes, including the recent release of the 21st installment of PM-KISAN, disbursing over Rs 18,000 crore to nine crore farmers across the country.
Particular emphasis was placed on reducing over-reliance on chemical fertilizers and pesticides which harm soil fertility and increase production costs.
To further support organic farming, Modi urged farmers to embrace intercropping and crop diversification. He lauded Tamil Nadu farmers for their resilience and innovative approaches, calling natural farming a way to preserve ecological balance and promote soil health.
The summit, attended by thousands of farmers and stakeholders from South India, showcased advancements in organic inputs, agro-processing, and eco-friendly farming technologies.
PM Modi also praised the youth for viewing agriculture as a modern, scalable opportunity, encouraging them to lead an “organic revolution” one acre at a time.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to full support in strengthening organic agriculture markets and farmer self-reliance.
The Prime Minister’s visit also featured a vibrant roadshow with enthusiastic public participation, symbolizing strong grassroots support for the nation’s agricultural transformation agenda.
This visit comes amid growing political activity ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, with the opposition led by AIADMK seeking to challenge the incumbent DMK government.
